Eddystone Rock jumped smartly under Jim Crowley and then settled to race midfield in the Investec Out of the Ordinary Handicap over 1m 4f at Epsom today. 2f out he started to make headway to chase the leaders and went head to head with Soldier In Action in the final furlong. Congratulations to owners Mark Curtis and Bob Malt on Eddystone Rock's impressive second place on Derby Day. (Pictured at Epsom with Lee Simmons).
We also fielded Malt Teaser over 1m 2f in a handicap at Lingfield today. He made progress to challenge under Kieren Fox going into the final furlong, battled to the line finishing strongly to post his best performance to date when taking second for owner Mark Curtis. A good day for Mark Curtis!

Casado put in an improved performance this evening when dropped back in trip to 1m 1f. Kieren Fox had him settled towards the rear before making progress 3f out in this Lingfield handicap. Casado made headway with the favourite to challenge the leader going into the final furlong, creating a exciting finish to the line to take joint 3rd for owners Simon & Laura Malcolm and Hugh & Pam Jarvis, congratulations from all the team.
Retained also put in an improved performance on her second run when switched to the all weather at Lingfield over 6f in a nursery stakes tonight. She raced midfield under Kieren Fox, made progress to challenge 2f out, kept on well to take 3rd for owner Mark Curtis. Retained (pictured above) is a half sister to previous winners produced by the yard Charles Fosterkane, Charlies Mate, Sabre Rock and Ballylare. Congratulations to owner Mark Curtis.
Our final runner of the night was Glenys the Menace who ran in the Glenys Curtis Memorial Fillies Handicap over 1m 4f under Kieren Fox and we are delighted that she put in a cracking performance to take a well deserved 2nd for owners Mark Curtis, Bob Malt and Tom & Alex Jenkins.
We are all obviously pleased at her performance but it is tinged with sadness as owner Glenys Curtis, who the filly was named after, passed away recently. Glenys was a delightful lady who brought a smile to everyone at John Best Racing and will be missed. Racing Post's Graham Dench wrote a fitting tribute in today's edition which we thank him for.
