With the turf flat season in full swing August got off to a great start on the 2nd when Padrinho took the lead early on in a 1m 6f handicap at Sandown under Kieren Fox. He travelled well throughout the race, despite running on softer ground, kept on well in the final furlong to take 3rd for owner Simon Malcolm.
The next week on the 9th we took a trip to the seaside where Pendo jumped smartly under Kieren Fox in a 1m handicap at Brighton. He went head to head 2f out, kept on strongly battling to the line to take second place for owner Brett Hopson.
The next day it was the turn of filly Glenys The Menace who put in another gutsy performance over 1m 2f in a Sandown handicap. She jumped smartly under Kieren Fox, dictated the pace on the soft ground and showed real determination when battling it out with another filly in the final furlong. Glenys The Menace stayed on strongly and took a well deserved second place. Trainer John Best said after the race that he was pleased with her performance especially since she'd gone up 9lbs and proved that she can go on the softer ground. He thinks today's result confirms what he thought that the filly will stay further.
Glenys The Menace came out of her race at Sandown 2 days ago fit and well and didn't disappoint on Shergar Cup day at Ascot. The filly stepped up in trip and raced in the "Rest of The World" colours over 1m 4f in the Shergar Cup Classic Handicap. South African Anthony Delpech had her settled towards the rear before making swift progress 2f out. She made her challenge going into the final furlong, went head to head with the favourite Contango and got her head in front to notch up her third win in 3 weeks for owners Mark Curtis, Bob Malt, Tom and Alex Jenkins. We ended August with a cracking result in a big handicap. Eddystone Rock raced midfield under Pat Dobbs over 1m 2 1/2f in the Jack Berry House Handicap at the Ebor Meeting in York. He made progress going into the final furlong, to draw clear with Mark Johnston's Titi Makfi. They went head to head in an exciting battle to the line with Eddystone Rock winning by a short head. Congratulations on a fantastic result to owners Mark Curtis and Bob Malt.
